Being at Walt Disney World for the 40th Anniversary Celebration was a dream come true. I am so happy that Walt’s dream came true when his brother, Roy, took it upon himself to see it through to fruition after Walt passed on. What a display of Brotherly Love in the finest, most honest form! And what a gift to us all!
The day started with a beautiful, cool walk across the perfectly manicured landscape of the Port Orleans Riverside to get our coffee. Susan and I both love our coffee. Then, we were off to the Magic Kingdom to celebrate. When we first got there, we were handed a commemorative map and a special 40th Anniversary edition pin to celebrate “40 Magical Years”….
Susan and I were so happy to be there among the tremendous and very excited crowd!
The stage show was terrific! The Dapper Dans had the whole crowd join in on “When You Wish Upon a Star.” I am glad they were chosen as the entertainment because they have been there from the very beginning.
The WDW Ambassadors made special comments also and there were special guests from the opening day, like Phil Holmes, who was a cast member working at the Haunted Mansion on October 1, 1971 and is now Magic Kingdom Vice President.
People all over the parks for days asked us what we were celebrating. We simply told them “Walt’s Dream!”
I, of course, had to purchase a special 40th Anniversary cupcake and it was dark chocolate goodness.
I also purchased some special 40th souvenirs: a photo album, a pin, a postcard, Mickey ears….you know – the norm!
I hope you have enjoyed this pictorial journey of our day at the 40th Anniversary. If you weren’t able to make it, I hope to see you at the 50th. Have a magical day!
