What do you do when you’re supposed to be at Disneyland but the Genesis flood comes and your trip gets canceled? Stranger still is that you have a clear calendar and no kids to take care of? Well, if you’re like me you plan for your Christmas baking and try a new recipe to see if it’s something you might want to add to your baking list for the holiday season.
For the past decade-plus we have been in Walt Disney World during the holidays and our family traditions at home, such as baking goodies to deliver to family and friends, has fallen by the wayside as there was just not enough time to do it all. This year will be our first year that we will not be at WDW for the holidays due to our trips in October so I am looking forward to sharing the love by delivering yummy goodies to family and friends (some of whom will enjoy caroling at their door).
I came across a recipe in a Kroger ad book I received in the mail the other day. So, today I made the recipe partly to make my hubby extra thankful that I am not gone this week, and partly for a dry-run to see if I will add it to my holiday baking list. To cut to the chase, the final result is shown above.
I liked the bars. They were aromatic and good consistency. Will I add them to my holiday baking list? Sadly, no. The verdict from my loves is that my normal gooey chocolate chip cookies outdo these Sheet Pan Chocolate Chip Bars. Although they are good, the cookies are still better.
So, I will be keeping my five traditional favorites: Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookies, Peppermint Bark, Saltine Toffee Bark, Chocolate Sugarplums and Dipped and Sprinkled Pretzels. That is, unless you have a treat recipe you’d like to share with me. I am always interested in other folks’ faves. Feel free to leave them in the comment section below and thanks in advance.
I have my Christmas Binder updated and I am excited about this year. Plus, I will need to stay busy with special family traditions to keep me from being depressed about not seeing Walt Disney World during all of its holiday glory. We will be creating our own Christmas glory at home. I hope you will be doing the same!
