Life with Food Allergies and Chronic Hives

I lived a pretty normal existence until the age of 47. I refer to that as “the year my body turned on me.” I broke out into hives only once that year. The next year, I had hive episodes 3 times. They became increasingly more frequent with each passing year and last year they were almost constant. In February, 2017 I had maybe 2 days out of the month when I was not hiving.

I have been through extensive allergy testing and I am, in fact, allergic to many foods in addition to airborne allergies such as pollens, dust mites, etc. I have been put on elimination diets, I have given up nearly every food I enjoy, I have been treated for leaky gut, I have given up all products with fragrance, I have purchased a $3000 allergy-free bed, I have ripped up all the carpet in my home and installed hardwood floors. I have truly done anything and everything to stop the hiving. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria, which basically means constantly recurring unexplained hives.

The most disheartening thing is that I enjoyed all of these foods throughout my entire life until 47. I also spent a great deal of time outside, which I now must avoid. My quality of life has suffered greatly and that is my biggest motivation for finding something that works.

I began receiving Immunotherapy shots once a week in November, 2016. They have not yet helped.
